Galiano Island
Galiano is the easiest of the Gulf islands to reach from the Lower Mainland, with a quick 45 minute ferry ride from Tsawwassen. The main center of activity is found closest to Sturdies Bay ferry terminal in the south end. Any number of amenities within walking distance make it tempting to explore the area, with an excellent bookstore, cafes, shops and galleries all nearby. A farmers market with plenty of local fresh produce and baked goods runs Saturdays from the May long weekend through October and many art studios welcome visitors year round. Excellent restaurants situated on acres of private forest land offer unique cuisine in quiet relaxation.
